Blog N°8 English course review and self-evaluation

My experience learing english has been good, I like learning english and I'm thankful that there are a lot of opportunities to keep practicing our english at university. I think the zoom classes are good because you can have any audiovisual material in your screen with good resolution. You can work from home and take the time to do the homework without being tired of going out or walkin home from university, that's why I really like english online classes. Ucursos is a solid platform that is user-friendly and it's intuitive. Blog posts are fun because you can see your classmate's work and see how they solve problems. Outside classes I use english a lot because I like to read fanfiction, manga and I like to watch series in their original language, this also helps me a lot to keep practicing and to keep learning. I also use english a lot to interact with other artists that I find on social media. I think my english level is good to understand things that are written, but I need to learn and practice more how to speak, hear and understand what is being said to me. For this I like to practice by watching english speaking youtubers and entertain myself at the same time that I'm learning. English is really fun for me because it can open a lot of doors of opportunities and new worlds. Also, english is an universal language so it's super fun to interact with people from all the world!

Blog N°7 Changes to my study programme

The current subjects I have are reduced in number because I am in 4th year of my career. These subjects are 'central engraving workshop' which is my main degree. Engraving is a printmaking process where a matrix of wood, metal or acrylic can be used to carve on its surface and then translate its content to another surface with ink or other techniques. 'Complementary molding workshop' where we use materials to make molds of sculptures and then replicate them. And ' theoretical seminar' which is like art history but focused on the philosophical part. I have no changes to propose on the 'subject' question since I personally find myself comfortable in these subjects. The workload and length of studies for me is kind of exhausting, there is a lot of work to do and not much time. The buildings and infrastructure of the faculty is good on the outside, but in the inside there's a lot of stuff that can be improved such as the general hygiene of the floors. Classrooms also need maintenance and air conditioners for the students that use different chemicals when painting and using different art techniques. The use of technology does not meet the general expectations of students. Doing online classes in a career like fine arts is not easy to manage on an online platform. The teaching methods of professors are personally good. I like how they show interest in their own subjects.

Blog N° 6 Time travel to the future

If I had to go to the future I would like to go to stay in my country to see how much it develops socially and demographically. I imagine Chile would be an accepting country to all kinds of what we consider minorities now, we would have fair laws and corruption would be something unacceptable in society. I would like to travel at least 200 years in the future, if earth is not burnt to extinction by climate issues. I really hope all countries in the world can come to a real agreement on how to take good care of the planet and not try to destroy it, with that being said, I would like to stay in that future if society proves that they have evolved from the problems that we live in this day. For example, today we face a very big political corruption issue, police brutality, dissapearance and murder of indigenous people, discrimination against the LGBTQ community and so much other problems that today seem like a war between the people and the system. I really would like to stay in a future where all of this problems become taboo to even think of doing and to teach generations what was my experience as a young person living in a country ruled by corrupts and how people can learn from the past.

Blog N° 5  A job you would like to have in the future

The job I would like to have in the future is to be a voice actress. I would like to have this job because I have always felt amazed by how people can give life to fictional characters with their voice. It seems so fun to watch professional actors transform their voices to adapt to different characters. I think I would like this job because it mostly involves animated series with fictional characters, and I love fiction. Characters and their environment in fictional series are so interesting to me, since I was a kid I was always involved in this type of media so I naturally grew more interested in them and who is behind them giving them life. The skills that are useful for this job are diction, breathing control and expressiveness. Usually the exercises done by vocalists are also very useful for voice actors since it is important to know how to control your muscles when talking or screaming. It's almost like acting but only using your voice. I always felt that I had skills to accomplish a neutral accent and to connect with characters and express their feelings.

Blog N°4  Your favorite series, show, or movie

The TV show I will be writing about is called 'Arcane'. It is an adaptation of an online game

called League of Legends. The show took 6 years of production and after a lot of hard work

it finally came to surprise not only League of Legends fans but also common media

consumers, film enjoyers and generally just average people.

The plot is about two sisters that are born in an undercity that lives in the shadow of the

'topside' city, which is the city of progress and everyone there lives a very privileged life while

in the undercity people die of hunger, intoxication and abuse from the mafia that rules the

undercity. It also portrays how it is to experience police brutality and how 'topsiders' keep

themselves willingly ignorant to the precarious conditions that the undercity citizens have to

suffer.

The first time I watched it was on its release date on November 6th, 2021, I was very excited

because not long ago I was just getting introduced to the online game and I was already

familiar with the majority of characters.

I watched half the show alone and the other half with friends. We all enjoyed it very much. I

enjoyed it so much that I just couldn't stop watching it over and over again and fixating on

the tiniest details.

Arcane is my favorite animated series because it makes me feel so represented as a person

that is part of a community that is systematically oppressed. Every single character

represents the product of what society makes to people under extreme conditions.

Blog N° 3 An artist that inspires you

The artist that I will be presenting in this blog is called Stephen Lee Bruner, his artistic name

is Thundercat and he is an american bass guitarist. His most recognized music genre is

Funk, R&B, soul, electronica, acid jazz, psychedelia, thrash.

I find a lot of inspiration in this artist because of many reasons, one of them being the vibrant

and fast-pacing style that his music has. Another reason is the lyrics on his songs; most of

them touch very sensitive topics and he not only portrays them in a very abstract way but he

makes the abstract work perfectly.

And lastly, my favorite piece of artwork made by Thundercat, or at least the one that I enjoy

the most is a song called 'Where I'm Going' from the album 'Drunk'. I like this song because

of the fast rhythm but low tone melody that makes you move with the rhythm but not feel too

excited. It will most likely make you feel nostalgic. This song also has lyrics that make me

think a lot. The lyrics are highly interpretative and the way the lyrics connect with me makes

it a very special song to me.
